Seed Storage and Germination – Some Basic Information about Marijuana Seeds

1. PROPER STORAGE OF MARIJUANA SEEDS

Seeds should be stored in their original packaging in the refrigerator so that they are not damaged and retain their ability to germinate.

Although if you have unwrapped the seeds but do not want to sow them yet, place them first in a ziplock bag, keep in an airtight food container and store it in the refrigerator.

This way your seeds can be stored for a maximum of 2 years and after this time the germination rate will be around 90%.

If you are going to store the seeds for several years, you can also freeze them. You can handle them as above, but place them in a freezer where the temperature is -20˚C to -25˚C. This way you can store the seeds for up to 10 years, and their germination rate after that will be about 80%.

2. MARIJUANA SEED GERMINATION

There are different methods of germinating marijuana seeds. Seeds from our brand can’t be germinated in a glass full of water. This method is for seeds that have been stored for a long time in unsuitable conditions. The shell of those seeds is shriveled and hard.

However, our seeds are freshly harvested and very young, thus their shell is softer. If you put seeds bought from us in water, they will drown and rot. You will know a rotten seed by the fact that it becomes white and crawly.

Seeds need heat, moisture and a medium to germinate.

The most natural way to germinate a marijuana seed is to do it directly in the soil. In order to do it, make a 0.5-1 cm deep hole in the surface, place the seed in it and cover it back with soil, and spray it with water.

The soil surface should be moist, but not wet.

Now we want the whole thing to germinate. When growing outdoors, we expose the seeds prepared in this way to the Sun, and when growing at home – to our lamp’s light. And in each case, we need to spray the soil with water once a day. It is important that the soil never completely dries out.

The optimal temperature for seed germination is 24 to 26°C.

Second and also good method for germinating marijuana seeds, is using paper towels. We need to place two paper towels on a plate and spray them with water. Next, put a maximum of 5 seeds on the paper towel 2cm apart. Cover the seeds also with two paper towels and spray them with water. Then cover seeds with a second plate and place it in a dark and warm place, where the temperature is 24 – 26°C. Paper towels can not dry out completely, so they should be moistened with water once a day. However, when doing so, do not uncover your seeds as they should not come into contact with light. After 2-3 days, the seeds should have already germinated.

3. COMMON MISTAKES WHEN GERMINATING MARIJUANA SEEDS

There are several mistakes when germinating marijuana seeds that should be avoided at all costs:

– Big Temperature Fluctuation
Seeds need a stable temperature between 24 and 26°C to germinate.

– Too Dry Or Too Wet
The medium in which you germinate seeds must be moist. It can not be completely dry or completely wet.

– Light
Marijuana seeds germinated on paper towels will only germinate in the dark and exposure to light should be avoided. Whereas the ones germinated straight in the soil need light or they will not come out of the ground but will rot.

– Too Many Seeds In One Place
If you germinate seeds in the soil, remember to put one seed per pot. Do not put several seeds in one pot.

If you germinate seeds on a paper towel, place a maximum of 5 seeds 2cm apart.

– Fertilizer
Marijuana seeds do not need any fertilizer or nutrient to germinate.
